We are conduits for the light of christ

We Aren’t the Light, We Carry It

In my reading, I came upon John 1:6–12 and it’s so fitting because our church is focusing on the importance of community.  God is so good to bring me to this particular Scripture to remind me of the power and the purpose of our calling within community.  As a Christian holistic coach, I also believe in the importance of being a part of an uplifting community.

In John 1 we read how God sent John the Baptist as a messenger ahead of Jesus to prepare hearts to receive the Light of Life.  Jesus, the very Creator stepped into His Creation, but many didn’t recognize Him. Without a messenger, our hearts weren’t ready.  Without community, and someone to reflect the light of Jesus, will you see it?

This began to speak to me so deeply of my own journey.  How influential and important is the role of a faith-filled community when growing in faith.  As believers, we are called to be that same kind of messenger – reflecting and revealing the Light that changed our lives to both believers and unbelievers.

We are conduits for the Light of Christ.

My husband is an electrician so I know a few things about conduits:

  1. Conduits protect what flows through them.  In community, we protect one another. Just as conduits shield wires from damage, believers provide covering and offer safe, supportive space for each other to grow, heal, and carry the Light without being “short-circuited” by the world.
  2. Conduits are not the power source – they carry the power.  We’re not the Light, we carry it.In community, we don’t have to be perfect or have it all together—we just stay connected to Jesus, the true Source, and allow His presence to move through us to others.
  3. Conduits are part of a larger system, they work together.  “Community is about connection and collaboration.” One conduit alone can’t light up a building, but a whole system? That’s power distributed, rooms lit, lives changed.

We each have a part, and when we link together, we shine brighter.

In our words, our love, and our presence – someone may come to recognize Jesus because we showed up “to be a witness, to point the way to the Light of Life and to help everyone believe” (John 1:7).

Don’t underestimate the power of being a conduit for the Light of Life,  Jesus.  Be the one who prepares the way.

May you be encouraged and empowered.  I pray you continue to grow in the blessings of the purpose He has placed in you.
